The countdown to the inauguration of the new Sagrera intermodal station continues, with an anticipated opening around 2028. After a halt in 2014 due to corruption cases, the project has regained momentum. Although from the street the structure still appears skeletal, indicating much work remains, the interior of the facilities reveals a much more advanced stage.
Recently, several users have shared photographs of the infrastructure's interior, demonstrating that the works are more advanced than perceived from the outside. Among the profiles that have disseminated these images is the user Meridiana obres (@meridianaobres), who published a thread on social media detailing the different spaces of the future intermodal station.
The snapshots show accesses, elevators for lines L9 and L10, and platforms for tracks 1 and 2. Connections with Rodalies commuter rail and bus lines are also visible, as well as the future station master's cabin. Despite the progress, the photographs also indicate that sections of tracks, platform doors, some elevators, stairs, and other communications still need to be completed.
“"We want that when the new station emerges, the city is already present."
In this context, the mayor of Barcelona, Jaume Collboni, announced last February that the City Council will allocate 260 million euros until 2031 to "reactivate" the transformation of the Sagrera neighborhood. This investment aims for the intermodal station to become a new "railway gateway" complementing the current Sants hub, connecting the metro with Rodalies lines. The project envisions the convergence of metro lines L4, L9, and L10 with Rodalies R1, R2, and R11.
