Storm Nils struck Catalonia this Thursday, leaving one woman dead in Barcelona, 85 people injured, and nearly 4,000 incidents reported to emergency services due to extreme wind gusts.

The weather event was particularly severe in the Barcelonès region. The fatality was a 46-year-old woman who died at Vall d'Hebron hospital after part of a warehouse roof collapsed on her in the Bon Pastor neighborhood.

"The metropolitan area is a very populated territory and not very resilient to wind gusts of 100 kilometers."

Wind gusts reached hurricane levels, with records of 166 km/h in Montseny and 105 km/h at the port of Barcelona. The city recorded 1,041 incidents, leading Mayor Jaume Collboni to call for extreme caution.
Interior Minister Núria Parlon defended the mobility restrictions implemented during the day, despite criticism from business sectors and mayors in other parts of Catalonia where the wind was less intense.
