Strong winds affecting Catalonia caused fallen trees and material damage in Barcelona and its metropolitan area this Wednesday, triggering the Ventcat emergency plan alert.

The 112 emergency hotline received nearly a hundred calls by 6:00 AM due to the strong wind gusts affecting the central coast. According to official data, the Barcelonès region was the hardest hit, accounting for over 40% of total incidents, followed by Vallès Oriental and Vallès Occidental.
In the city of Barcelona, 36 calls were recorded for various incidents, while in other metropolitan municipalities, Firefighters had to intervene for trees falling on vehicles and public roads. In towns like Sant Cugat del Vallès, a large pine tree fell onto two parked cars, although no injuries were reported.
Wind gusts exceeded 90 km/h in areas like Terrassa and reached 89.3 km/h at the Port of Barcelona, according to Meteocat. Consequently, Protecció Civil is maintaining the Ventcat plan alert and advising citizens to exercise caution regarding potential falling debris or urban furniture.
