The ferry Ciudad de Granada, operated by Trasmed, on the Barcelona to Ibiza route, experienced a technical failure that prevented its departure. Hundreds of passengers, many intending to watch the eclipse on the Pitiusa island, were held up at the Barcelona port for hours.
According to some affected passengers, the ship, scheduled to arrive in Ibiza in the morning, suffered technical problems that led to power outages and a lack of air conditioning, causing distress among passengers, including frightened children.
Due to the lack of information and the unbearable conditions, passengers called the emergency number 112 and the police. Officers arrived at the scene to intervene and manage the situation.
Ultimately, the travelers had to disembark from the ship, which remains docked in the Port of Barcelona. The vessel, with a capacity for 1,250 passengers, was remodeled in 2023 and built in 2001.
Some regular passengers expressed their frustration, noting that such problems with the company are recurrent. The original plan was to watch the eclipse from northern Ibiza, but now they will have to watch it from home.
