The mobilization, part of a series of protests held in forty cities across Spain, started around noon at Jardinets de Gràcia and proceeded to Plaça Catalunya. Organizers estimated attendance at nearly 5,000 people, while the Guàrdia Urbana (Municipal Police) counted 1,200 demonstrators.
The protest was called by entities such as the Coalició Prou Complicitat amb Israel, the Comunitat Palestina de Catalunya, the Global Movement to Gaza, and the Xarxa Solidària contra l’Ocupació de Palestina. During the march, a letter from the imprisoned Palestinian activist Marwan Barghouti was read in front of the European Commission headquarters in Barcelona.
“"That is why we remain in the streets, we will continue in the streets, and for a free Palestine until justice is done. We don't just want words; we want action now from our governments."
The spokesperson for the Coalició Prou Complicitat, Alys Samson, was critical of the role of institutions, noting that they “continue to fall short of the situation.” Samson demanded an arms embargo and the end of all relations with the state of Israel, in addition to the release of Palestinian prisoners.
The activist Ariadna Masmitjà, a participant in the Global Sumud Flotilla, asserted that citizens' taxes should not fund “any genocide, apartheid, or occupation,” and sent a message of support to prisoners in Israel.
