Thousands of teachers marched through Barcelona this Monday, marking the start of a week of strikes called by Ustec, Aspepc, and CGT unions against the Generalitat's education policies.

The demonstration moved through the city center from Urquinaona Square to Sant Jaume Square. According to the Guàrdia Urbana, approximately 8,000 people attended, though the Ustec union estimated the crowd at 25.000. Teachers are protesting a recent salary deal signed by the Education Department with the CCOO and UGT unions.

Strike participation figures vary significantly. Ustec reported that 70% of teachers in the Barcelonès and Baix Llobregat areas joined the walkout, while the Generalitat placed the figure at 29%. Protesters called for the resignation of Dalmau, the government's lead negotiator during the absence of President Salvador Illa.
