The organizers of the Tour de France, together with the Barcelona City Council and the Generalitat de Catalunya, have agreed to a change in the route of the second stage. The decision responds to the need to guarantee public presence and comply with current restrictions in the Collserola Natural Park due to an outbreak of African swine fever (ASF).
The new itinerary, which maintains the start in Tarragona and the finish in Barcelona, will avoid passing through Collserola. Cyclists, once they leave Molins de Rei at kilometer 123, will continue along the N-340 to Plaça Espanya. This adaptation reduces the total stage distance from 182.4 to 168.4 kilometers, a decrease of approximately 14 kilometers.
“"With this change, proposed by the Barcelona City Council at the request of the Catalan government and agreed upon with the Tour organization, the priority has been to modify the planned route as little as possible, and it will mean a quick entry into the city after leaving behind the municipalities of Baix Llobregat."
The modification will allow the public to enjoy the race along its entire route, as the original section through Collserola would have been inaccessible due to restrictions. With the new route, the cycling event will pass through municipalities such as Molins de Rei, Sant Feliu de Llobregat, Sant Just Desvern, l'Hospitalet de Llobregat, and Esplugues de Llobregat, fostering public participation in the cycling celebration.
