The Catalan Traffic Service (SCT) has announced that approximately 580,000 vehicles will leave the Barcelona metropolitan area during the May 1st long weekend, with a special operation to manage mobility.

The mass exodus of vehicles will begin on Thursday from 12:00 PM and will continue until Sunday at midnight, when the return of 280,000 vehicles is expected. This special operation aims to ensure smooth traffic flow and safety on Catalan roads.
To cope with the increased traffic, the Mossos d'Esquadra will deploy a total of 1,365 officers. These agents will be stationed on high-mobility routes and secondary roads, conducting 1,020 controls for alcohol and drugs, as well as monitoring driver distractions and speeding.
Among the most notable measures, additional lanes will be enabled to facilitate the return journey on several high-traffic sections. These include the AP-7 between Vilafranca and Molins de Rei, and also between Sant Celoni and Montornès del Vallès. Similarly, the C-32 will have additional lanes between Sant Andreu de Llavaneres and Montgat.
Additionally, restrictions will be applied to heavy vehicles. They will not be allowed to travel on the AP-7, in both directions, between Maçanet de la Selva and l'Hospitalet de l'Infant on Sunday, from 5:00 PM to 10:00 PM.
