The Besòs Consortium and the AMB have launched environmental assessments to decontaminate public land in Sant Adrià de Besòs and Badalona before major urban works begin in 2027.

The transformation of the Tres Xemeneies area into a residential and tech hub with 1,783 homes requires addressing a legacy of industrial pollution. Studies costing 350,000 euros will identify toxins from former paint and pesticide factories. Private firms like Inditex will also invest over 5 million euros to clean their designated plots in the Avinguda de la Platja sector.
While land decontamination is synchronized with the 2027-2033 construction schedule, the coastal area remains a concern. The Ministry for Ecological Transition has yet to set a date for cleaning heavy metals from the beaches, which have been closed to the public for a decade due to health risks.
