Former mayor Xavier Trias expressed his disbelief this March 3 regarding the proposal for businessman Tatxo Benet to lead the Junts ticket in Barcelona for 2027.

Speaking on the Cafè d'Idees show, Trias reacted to reports that Carles Puigdemont offered the candidacy to the Mediapro co-founder. Trias stated that the idea makes no sense and suggested that someone within the party leadership has lost their way.

"It can't be true. I don't see it. Someone has invented something, someone has lost their mind."

The move comes amid internal discussions to find a successor for Trias, with Josep Rius and Jordi Martí Galbis previously considered the main contenders. The party is under pressure as recent polls suggest a significant drop in seats for the next municipal term.
