A new shooting this Sunday night in La Marina de Port has heightened concern in the neighborhood, marking the second fatality in less than a month on Mineria street. In response, the councilor for the Sants-Montjuïc district, Raquel Gil, sought to reassure residents.
Gil emphasized that the incidents are primarily related to "organized crime score-settling" rather than "neighborhood dynamics." Measures include increasing the presence of the Mossos d’Esquadra and Guàrdia Urbana in the area, an action that, according to the councilor, was already in progress with the community to improve their sense of security, although "events like this do not help".
The councilor announced that in the coming days, details of security arrangements for the neighborhood's festivals will be shared, along with information on the coordination between police forces to restore residents' peace of mind.
From the opposition, municipal groups Junts and Vox have criticized the City Council's handling of the situation. Vox councilor Gonzalo de Oro demanded the expulsion of "delinquents" and "those responsible who do nothing." Meanwhile, Junts's president in the City Council, Jordi Martí Galbis, warned that "insecurity is already part of daily life." PP councilor Daniel Sirera urged the mayor to "take Barcelona seriously" given the lack of "reaction, explanation, and action."
