Journalist Xavier Casanovas Zurano has been named the new Head of News for betevé, Barcelona's public television station, following a public selection process, bringing his extensive career in the media sector.

Casanovas, who holds a degree in Information Sciences and a master's in Audiovisual Business Management, boasts over three decades of experience across various media outlets. Until now, since January 2024, he directed the public media services of Badalona Comunicació.
Prior to his tenure in Badalona, he served as the Director of News and Content for Onda Cero Catalunya. His professional journey also includes roles in the newsrooms of RNE-Ràdio 4, TVE, COM Ràdio, Onda Rambla, TV L'Hospitalet, and Cugat Mèdia, among others.
In addition to his journalistic career, Casanovas is an associate professor in the Department of Audiovisual Communication and Advertising at the Faculty of Communication Sciences of the UAB. He has also worked as a communication consultant and taught digital communication, new formats, and radio at the Universitat Oberta de Catalunya (UOC) and the Universitat Internacional de Catalunya (UIC).

"Never before has it been so difficult to reach the public, amidst such a vast informational offering. In this context, the great challenge is to connect with citizens, with local information, through new formats and a strategy that integrates all betevé channels: television, radio, and the digital environment. And to do so with the seal of quality and journalistic rigor inherent to the betevé brand."
