President of the Generalitat, Salvador Illa, will remain hospitalized at Vall d'Hebron Hospital for approximately two weeks due to severe leg pain, where he will undergo tests and intensive rehabilitation.

Illa was admitted on Saturday afternoon after experiencing intense muscular pain in his leg while jogging. The medical team ruled out serious conditions like a stroke or tumor, but confirmed the president is suffering from pain and loss of strength in his legs, preventing him from walking.

"Everything suggests that Illa has an 'inflammatory pathology' and one of the probable causes is an infection."

Albert Salazar · Managing Director of Vall d'Hebron Hospital
The Managing Director of Vall d'Hebron Hospital, Albert Salazar, explained on Monday that antibiotics have already been administered, as “one possibility is that the inflammation is caused by an infection in the lumbar area.” Salazar added that the pathology was caught “very early” and is usually overcome with this treatment.

"The Government continues to function."

Albert Dalmau · Minister of the Presidency
While Illa is hospitalized, the Minister of the Presidency, Albert Dalmau, will assume his duties, ensuring the continuity of the executive. Although the president expressed his wish to continue working, the medical team stressed that “he is now a patient” and his schedule remains suspended.
The president thanked the expressions of support received, including those from the Spanish Prime Minister, Pedro Sánchez, and the leaders of Junts, ERC, and the PPC, noting that he faces “a few days of tests and recovery” at Vall d'Hebron Hospital.
