This operation affects two officially protected housing buildings constructed in 2013, located on the Collblanc road, known as Porta Nord. The properties have nine and sixteen floors, respectively, with an average usable area of 81 m2 per home, and the purchase ensures affordable and permanent rent for the residents.
The announcement comes months after the Generalitat exercised its right of first refusal (tanteo y retracto) to acquire over a thousand flats from this La Caixa investment fund across various Catalan municipalities. However, the Porta Nord homes were not initially included in that list, although other protected flats in the city, such as property 112 on Carrilet Avenue, were.
The affected families of Porta Nord initiated mobilizations and a rent strike, supported by the Sindicat de Llogateres (Tenants' Union), to demand the same solution. This pressure arose after InmoCaixa notified them of the non-renewal of protected rental contracts with the intention of exploiting the properties in the free market.
“"The Government's objective is to expand the affordable and stable housing stock, especially in those municipalities where market pressure is highest."
Minister Paneque emphasized that this acquisition is part of negotiations that began during the previous legislature and have continued into the current one, reaffirming the Government's commitment to expanding the social housing stock.
