Drag queen Jèssica Pulla reports LGTBIfobic attack during Sant Andreu Festival

The artist, also known as Joan Gabàs, received homophobic insults and was hit by a lemon while performing on the night of December 6.

Drag queen artist Jèssica Pulla (Joan Gabàs) reported an LGTBIfobic attack on the night of December 6 while performing at the Festa Major Reivindicativa de Sant Andreu in Barcelona.

The incident occurred while Jèssica Pulla was performing on stage in the Sant Andreu district. According to the artist’s statement on social media, a group of youths was murmuring homophobic insults nearby before someone threw a lemon at her, intending to cause harm in front of the audience.

"Generations are rising with frightening ideals, not to mention the fascism we have been dragging along for decades and which, unfortunately, is normalized by institutions."

Despite the seriousness of the incident, Pulla confirmed she is well and stated her intention not to take “a single step back” in her work. The artist also noted that such incidents are not isolated within the LGTBI community.

"Unfortunately, I am neither the first nor the last to experience a similar situation, and I condemn all the aggressions that my friends and colleagues may have suffered."

Pulla thanked the swift reaction of the organizers of the Festa Major Reivindicativa de Sant Andreu, who acted immediately to make her feel “cared for and protected” at all times following the assault.
