The Sant Andreu company L’Esbord presents the acclaimed show Folk as Queer at the Sant Andreu Teatre (SAT!) on December 19 and 20, claiming traditional dance as a space for freedom.

Four performers, including dancers trained at Esbart Maragall, battle on stage to create a dialogue between the traditional body and the contemporary and digital. This erratic recital of root dances seeks references that allow the dancers to express their dissident identity.

"It is a song of love for traditional practices as spaces of emancipation."

L’Esbord · Company
The production, directed and performed by Andrea Jiménez – Ancorae, features Pere Seda, founder of L’Esbord in 2022, as the creative lead. Selected for the Obrador d’Arrel at the Fira Mediterrània de Manresa 2024, the work has already been showcased at major festivals such as Dansa Metropolitana, Dansàneu, and Grec.
The company, resident at Fabra i Coats, has premiered three productions in just three years —including L’Hereu Riera and AUTOODI— and has accumulated over sixty performances. The artistic goal is to transform tradition into a tool for queer affirmation and establish Sant Andreu on the map of contemporary root dance.
