The Minister of Environment, Agriculture and Livestock, Guillem Casal, highlighted that the new infrastructure will ensure that injured or recovered species can be treated in an adequate environment, with modern and functional facilities for their subsequent release into their natural habitats.
This project addresses the need to move the current recovery center, located in Santa Coloma, to a definitive location. The new space will be developed on land near the pont de Molleres at the foot of Racons, within the parish of Canillo.
The center will consist of a main building with a 108 square meter ground floor dedicated to the hospital area, including an operating room, quarantine room, UVI room, and necropsy room. The first floor, spanning 102 square meters, will be used for storage.
The building will be complemented by two 54 square meter cubicles to house recovering animals, as well as two enclosures: one for mammals and an aviary for bird recovery. These facilities will also carry out monitoring tasks related to the Andorra Wildlife Health Surveillance Plan.
The Government declared the Wildlife Recovery Center a Project of National Interest (PIN). The works have been awarded to Construccions Roca for an amount of 962,866.80 euros, and the execution schedule is ten months from the date of the staking out certificate.
