The event, held at the Pavelló de Suècia in Berga, featured a dozen speakers who underscored the importance of dignified work for the inclusion of individuals with mental health problems. The gathering placed special emphasis on the SIOAS program (Comprehensive Orientation, Accompaniment, and Support for Insertion Services), which annually assists over 5,000 people in their job placement processes.
The SIOAS program offers continuous support to both the individual and the company, extending beyond initial placement to ensure an effective transition to the ordinary labor market. This supported employment model is crucial for individuals with disabilities or mental health disorders, who often require time and continuity in the process.
“"The need to train and empower people with mental health problems and ensure comprehensive support throughout the entire insertion process."
During the debate, Isabel Garcia, Deputy Director General of Work in Diversity and Community Economies, advocated for the training and empowerment of this group. Meanwhile, Sebastià Prat, president of the Berguedà Development Agency, and Pol Ginestà, IT manager at Marina Tèxtil, highlighted the collaboration between companies and social entities, noting that intermediation facilitates work for businesses.
The conference also included the presentation of data on mental health in Catalonia by Laia Arnal, director of the National Mental Health Pact, who called for its transversal incorporation into all public policies. David Bonvehí, Director General of Social and Solidarity Economy and Cooperativism, reminded attendees that one in four people will experience a mental health disorder in their lifetime and emphasized the importance of the social economy and special employment centers.
Bonvehí announced the imminent approval of the Catalonia Social Economy Law, a key tool for the sector, and highlighted Berguedà's leading role in this area. He also mentioned the reinforcement of the SIOAS program and the recovery of aid for hiring people with disabilities in ordinary companies.
The conference concluded with a showcooking by chefs Ada Parellada (Semproniana restaurant in Barcelona) and Jordi Badia (La Cabana de Berga), who prepared desserts using yogurts from Delícies del Berguedà, an insertion project of the Fundació Horitzó. Attendees were able to taste the creations and exchange views on the topics discussed.
