The Volta a Catalunya 2026 concluded with Australian Brady Gilmore (NSN Cycling Team) claiming the final stage in Barcelona, after a 95-kilometer route featuring seven ascents of Montjuïc. The 24-year-old secured his first WorldTour victory, out-sprinting Dorian Godon and Remco Evenepoel.
However, the main protagonist of the race was Jonas Vingegaard, a two-time Tour de France winner, who built his overall victory on his performances in the mountain stages of La Molina and Queralt. This advantage allowed him to defend his lead without difficulty on the final day.
The final podium was completed by Frenchman Lenny Martínez, who finished second and was named best young rider, and German Florian Lipowitz, who took third place. The race was notably demanding, especially in stages like the fifth, a 153-kilometer stretch between La Seu d'Urgell and La Molina/Coll de Pal, which was affected by wind and saw Tom Pidcock crash out of contention.
Vingegaard's dominance was evident in the stage between Berga and Queralt, where he secured his second consecutive victory, attacking just over two kilometers from the finish line and crossing it solo. This edition of the Volta once again visited several towns in La Selva, such as Tossa de Mar, Caldes de Malavella, Sils, Hostalric, Arbúcies, and Sant Hilari, and included a start from Mataró.
With this victory, Vingegaard adds his name to a prestigious list of winners and solidifies an edition of the Volta marked by the dominance of cycling's biggest international names.
