The municipal group Junts per Berga has submitted a motion to the City Council to end the current format of the Fira de Maig, arguing that the event has not achieved expected results or regained its appeal.
The political formation believes that the Fira de Maig does not conform to a clear sectoral fair model, fails to generate significant expectations or attract sufficient public. Furthermore, it points out that it does not encourage active participation from exhibitors or the commercial sector, and is not perceived as a viable or sustainable event in the medium term.

"Attempts to reinvent the format of the Fira de Maig have not achieved the expected results, and the event has not managed to regain centrality or appeal."
The motion by Junts, which will be debated in the City Council plenary session this Thursday, seeks to discontinue the Fira de Maig in its current configuration. The proposal is based on the fact that the event does not meet the objectives of a municipal initiative of this nature nor justifies the investment of economic, human, and organizational resources it entails.
The party also urges the initiation of a process for defining and strategically reviewing the city's commercial campaigns and fair model. This review should establish clear and measurable objectives to assess the real impact, and it is demanded that it be a participatory process, agreed upon with the commercial sector and local economic agents.
Junts would only accept the continuation of the Fira de Maig if there is a comprehensive redefinition of its model, with a concrete and measurable objective, a thematic axis, and a solid differentiating narrative. In the meantime, the formation proposes reallocating the resources currently assigned to the Fira de Maig to strengthen other consolidated and strategically relevant campaigns, such as the Christmas campaign, Santa Tecla, and BergaBolet.

"It is a proposal to prioritize and rethink what is not yielding the expected results. It is a necessary debate if we want useful, sustainable commercial campaigns that truly serve the local economy."
Despite its critical stance, Junts per Berga acknowledges the involvement and effort of Berga's entities that have contributed to sustaining the event. However, they believe that this collective effort cannot indefinitely justify the allocation of public resources to a format that does not generate a return or differential value for the city.
