The Bagà Town Council has approved a new ordinance permanently restricting the placement of advertising billboards outside the urban center, particularly near the C-16 highway, to preserve the town's image.

The ordinance, approved this summer, puts an end to the proliferation of large advertising billboards along the highway, which the current local government considers to have a negative impact on the town's image. The regulation defines the specific locations within the urban area where these advertising elements can be installed and sets the criteria they must follow, such as size.
The decision follows the installation of a large advertising billboard near the sports pavilion, close to the C-16, promoting a real estate portal in early 2023. Mayor Lluís Casas pointed out that the billboard was placed illegally, as it was less than 25 meters from the road and in an area designated as green space.
The Town Council discovered that the billboard was part of a three-year contract recently signed with a private company, which paid the council 5,000 euros annually. Following this case, a one-year moratorium was approved to prohibit the placement of new billboards, which now culminates in the new definitive ordinance.
According to the mayor, the company responsible for the first billboard attempted to install another in a different location in Bagà, following their 'modus operandi' of placing them before asking for permission. Another company also tried later. In both instances, the Town Council managed to thwart these attempts in coordination with the Mossos d'Esquadra (Catalan Police), thanks to prior complaints filed.
