The Berga City Council approved a 423,000-euro investment to modernize the climate control and energy efficiency of the Sant Bernabé nursing home in March 2026.

The municipal plenary unanimously backed the project, which is largely funded by a 350,000-euro inheritance left by a former resident. The plan focuses on improving room ventilation and individual temperature control across the facility.

"The project includes a significant investment that focuses on room ventilation and temperature control in each area."

Aleix Serra · City Councilor for Urbanism
In addition to HVAC upgrades, the project includes solar panels and backup generators to prevent service interruptions. As the total cost exceeds the inheritance by 73,000 euros, the local government will decide whether to use municipal funds or complete the work in stages.
Opposition parties supported the measure but criticized the lack of a monitoring commission. They urged the Government to involve families and staff in overseeing the management of the center.
