Mayors from the Berguedà region signed a joint declaration this Monday in Gironella, demanding immediate solutions from the Generalitat de Catalunya regarding high accident rates and congestion on the C-16 highway.

This institutional move follows an agreement by the Consell d'Alcaldies, spearheaded by the Mayor of Cercs, Urbici Malagarriga. Local representatives have joined forces to pressure the Government into establishing a realistic schedule for safety upgrades on this vital infrastructure.

Safety and mobility in Berguedà can no longer wait.

The president of the Berguedà County Council, Moisès Masanas, highlighted the deep concern over recent fatal accidents. The joint statement describes the current road conditions as unacceptable, negatively impacting the quality of life for local residents.
Specific demands have been sent to the Catalan Transit Service. According to Malagarriga, officials have already verbally committed to removing lanes in high-risk areas, installing lane dividers, and adding speed radars to improve safety.
