Catalonia's unemployment rate reaches 8.24% at the end of 2025, according to EPA data

The number of employed people saw a slight quarterly decrease, despite a minor drop in the total number of unemployed individuals.

The Active Population Survey (EPA), published by the INE this Tuesday, places the unemployment rate in Catalonia at 8.24% during the fourth quarter of 2025.

According to data from the National Statistics Institute (INE), the number of unemployed people in Catalonia decreased by 900 compared to the previous quarter (a drop of 0.26%), setting the total at 351,200 unemployed. However, the unemployment rate slightly increased from 8.18% to 8.24%.
This figure makes Catalonia the twelfth autonomous community with the most pronounced absolute decrease in unemployment between October and December 2025. Compared to the same period the previous year, unemployment registered a significant increase of 6.65%, with 21,900 more people out of work.
Regarding employment, the number of employed individuals in Catalonia reached 3.91 million. This represents a quarterly decrease of 0.94%, but a rebound of 1.49% compared to the fourth quarter of 2024, with 57,300 additional employed people year-on-year.
Finally, the number of inactive people rose to 2.68 million by the end of December, surpassing the 2.61 million recorded in September. The population over 16 years old in Catalonia stands at 6.95 million people.
