The letter, published by media outlets including La Vanguardia and Diari de Mallorca, expresses “infinite gratitude” to all public health professionals who treated the two children and their parents, Mireia and Carlos, who suffered serious injuries.
“"We know that if Teo could not make it, it was not because they stopped doing anything. They tried everything until the end. And we also know that if Mauro had any chance of making it, it is thanks to all these professionals."
The relatives recount the anguish experienced during the first hours after the accident, when they did not know which hospitals the injured had been taken to. They detail that the first news arrived thanks to David, a nurse on the ambulance carrying the mother, Mireia, who, despite being stunned, remembered her sister Silvia's phone number. The injured were eventually transferred to hospitals in Barcelona, Terrassa, and Manresa.
The letter emphasizes the radical change in care once they arrived at the hospital centers. The families were left “totally amazed” by the professionals in the public ICUs and thanked the “extraordinary” work of the SEM (Medical Emergency System). According to the family, the mother is “quite well” and the father “is evolving positively thanks to their quick intervention.”
Finally, the letter calls for investment in the public system: “It is when you have to live it closely that you realize that you have to invest in it.” Separately, the Balearic Islands Football Federation has announced that a minute of silence will be observed in all weekend matches in memory of the two children, who belonged to the Entreculturas Montesión school.
