Farmers gathered on the C-16 near Olvan and Gironella escalated their protests against the EU-Mercosur agreement on Friday afternoon, burning tires and forcing the Mossos d'Esquadra to halt circulation.

Around 4:30 PM, protesters lit three bonfires using tires, plastics, and straw bales. This action generated very dense, black smoke that drastically reduced visibility on the highway lanes.
The thick smoke drifted towards the alternative route that the Mossos d’Esquadra had set up via the old road near Cal Rosal. Given the safety risk to drivers, the Catalan police decided to completely cut off traffic for a period.
This interruption caused significant congestion. Although traffic resumed around 5:00 PM, vehicles continued to move very slowly northbound, being diverted onto the old road towards Berga, with some tractors circulating to further slow down the movement. The mobilization in Berguedà remains active.
