The Health Department announced this February a new organizational model dividing Catalonia into 30 areas to ensure equitable and sustainable healthcare in rural environments.

The Director General of Planning, Aina Plaza Tesías, and the president of CAIROS, Manel del Castillo Rey, presented a pilot test to define the future system. This initiative seeks real integration of health and social services in territories like Berguedà, where geographic dispersion is a major challenge.

"The great challenge of longevity is changing the demands on public health."

The new model proposes creating 30 Integrated Health Areas (AIS). In these spaces, hospitals, Primary Care Centers, and city councils must coordinate to offer unified care. The goal is to avoid duplicate tests and ensure all citizens have access to quality services.
A critical point is the shortage of professionals, especially affecting small hospitals. To mitigate this, the Health Department proposes doctor mobility between centers. Stakeholders have until March 27 to submit candidacies for the pilot tests.

"We want to change a model focused on disease to a model focused on health."
