The Volta a Catalunya, in its 105th edition, has made a strong commitment to the mountains in the men's event, featuring three high-altitude finishes. In addition to Vallter, cyclists will face finishes at La Molina/Coll de Pal and Queralt. The order and profile of these stages position Berguedà as the area where the final winner of the race will most likely be decided.
The list of participants includes major international stars such as the two-time Tour de France winner, Jonas Vingegaard, who will compete directly with Olympic and World Champion Remco Evenepoel. Other prominent names such as Tom Pidcock, Joao Almeida, Enric Mas, Marc Soler, and local favorite Sepp Kuss will also be present.
The first incursion into Berguedà will be during the fifth stage, on Friday, March 27, starting in La Seu d'Urgell. This day will accumulate nearly 4,500 meters of elevation gain, including the Port Colldarnat (1st category), known as the “Catalan Stelvio”, and the ascents to Coll de Fumanya (1st category) and Collada Sobirana (1st category), before the finish at the fearsome Coll de Pal (Special Category).
The following day, Sunday, March 28, the Queen Stage will be held, entirely within the Berguedà region. Starting and finishing in Berga, the 158-kilometer route includes the climbs of Coll de la Batallola (3rd category), the famous Coll de Pradell (Special Category), and Collada de Sant Isidre (1st category). The final climb to Queralt (1st category) will be the climax to decide the winner of the Volta.
Regarding the women's Volta a Catalunya, scheduled for June 19-21, the second high-mountain stage will also feature Berguedà prominently. Cyclists will start from Sant Vicenç de Castellet and finish at La Molina, tackling the Coll de la Creueta (Special Category) along the way.
