The Gironella City Council, led by Mayor David Font, has approved the municipal budget for 2026, which exceeds 8 million euros and focuses heavily on public space maintenance and citizen security.

The budget was approved without difficulty this week, as the governing group Més x Gironella holds all 11 council seats. Although slightly lower than the 2025 budget, Mayor David Font indicated that it is likely to be modified throughout the year as pending external aid is secured.
Maintenance priorities focus on public spaces, parks and gardens, lighting, and municipal buildings, which require more intensive intervention due to their intensive use and age. This strategy, aimed at having “an orderly, clean, and well-maintained municipality,” was already initiated during the 2025 fiscal year.

"We will incorporate two new local agents to reinforce surveillance, we will extend patrolling hours, including night shifts, and we will acquire a new, better-equipped police vehicle."

Regarding planning, the initial budget does not include major projects expected to start in 2026, such as the sports facilities plan, improvements to the Plaça de l'Estació, or the third phase of river environment pacification, which will involve an investment close to 800,000 euros. Funds are also reserved for drafting projects like the improvement of Plaça de Cal Bassacs or Viladomiu Vell.
The mayor also highlighted the reliability of the budget, noting that during 2025 the municipal government was able to fully execute or initiate 92.4% of the investments planned at the beginning of the year.
