The citizen participation day reflected clear opposition to the energy project, with 55% of votes against in Vilada and 69% in La Nou de Berguedà. Despite these results, the promoting companies, Verbund and E-Storagy, have expressed their intention to continue explaining the project.
“"A project of this magnitude requires the broadest possible consensus among citizens, institutions, and entities."
The promoters advocate for open dialogue to demonstrate the positive integration of the power plant into the Berguedà region. They highlighted the support received from the Associació d’Empresaris del Berguedà (ACEB), the Cambra de Comerç del Berguedà, and the Cercs City Council, as well as the Generalitat's approval for the public company L’Energètica to invest in the project.
For their part, the Pla de Clarà Viu platform and the Grup de Defensa de la Natura celebrated the consultation results, interpreting them as a victory for arguments regarding the project's risks and infeasibility over compensation proposals. These groups demand that the city councils of Vilada and La Nou, as well as the Comarcal Council, accept the results and act to halt the initiative.
The city councils of Vilada and La Nou have expressed their intention to defend the position against the power plant's construction. The mayor of La Nou, Josep Peixó, emphasized that 'the town has voted, and it has voted no'. The Vilada City Council has committed to engaging in dialogue with the promoters to officially communicate the results and the territory's stance, while warning that they will act firmly if the project is pushed through by supramunicipal decision.
The Consell Comarcal del Berguedà has initiated an internal reflection period to define a consensual position, although it clarified that its decision will not be binding for the project's execution. Meanwhile, the promoters plan to sign a collaboration agreement with the Cercs City Council, which includes compensatory measures such as support for demolishing the old thermal power plant and electricity bill discounts for residents.
