The renovation of the building, executed in four months with a budget of 3.5 million euros, has increased capacity, expanding from 30 to 72 beds distributed across nine rooms. A new multipurpose room has been built, maintaining the iconic hexagonal shape, intended for meetings and events for companies and groups, with the goal of offering service throughout the year.
“"The Niu will be a space with many experiences and many different lives throughout the day and throughout the year."
The work was carried out following sustainability and accessibility criteria, adapting the spaces for people with reduced mobility and enabling an interior connection with the cable car. The refuge's terraces have also tripled in size, increasing from 160 to 535 square meters, with capacity for 170 seated people.
Regarding energy efficiency, the walls feature a three-layer contour, one of which is polycarbonate, which has allowed maintaining 20 degrees inside the rooms when -10 degrees were registered outside. Additionally, solar panels have been installed on the south facade. The 'Niu Nit' gastronomic experience, which includes cable car transport, is scheduled to hold its first dinner on December 27.
