The OncoFit program at Hospital de Cerdanya provides a multidisciplinary approach that integrates physical activity, nutrition, and emotional support for oncology patients, helping them regain confidence and control over their lives.
In Cerdanya, the OncoFit project has become a fundamental pillar for the recovery of cancer patients. Coordinated by a multidisciplinary team from Hospital de Cerdanya, the program brings together doctors, nurses, psycho-oncologists, nutritionists, and sports technicians to provide comprehensive and personalized support.
When a person receives a cancer diagnosis, they not only face the physical illness but also a significant emotional impact. It generates fear, uncertainty, a sense of loss of control, and social isolation.
The program's professionals emphasize the importance of adapted physical activity, which helps rebuild confidence, self-esteem, and a sense of control over one's life. Furthermore, OncoFit encourages the creation of bonds among patients, fostering a space of mutual understanding.
Many patients tell us that when they come to the program here, they don't have to explain illnesses; instead, they feel understood and don't feel like patients.
Sílvia Flaquer, one of the participants, highlights the support received since her diagnosis, especially from the oncologist, nurse Belén, and psycho-oncologist Helena. She also values the sport and nutrition aspects, which have helped her enjoy the process. Meanwhile, Dolors Creus recounts how the program has given her strength and hope, creating a support group she describes as 'a family'.
The program is based on three main pillars: emotional management of the illness, nutrition, and physical activity. Each patient has access to guided sessions with sports technicians and CAFES, adapted to their condition, including strength, balance, and mobility exercises applicable to daily life.

"Cancer is not a moment, but a journey; it is a slow, long journey. It's not just the diagnosis, not just the medical treatment, but everything that comes afterward. Physical activity is a key part of the recovery of an oncology patient."
The relationship between patients and the team is crucial, as professionals state that patients help them stay 'grounded' and remember what is truly important in life. In addition to physical and emotional health, OncoFit also promotes social integration, with activities such as the Oncomarxa, a solidarity walk that combines sport, community, and cancer awareness in Cerdanya.
