The local crew clarifies that the decision to stop service is their own due to a critical lack of personnel.

The volunteer firefighters of Puigcerdà issued a statement this Friday to clarify that their departure from the station is a voluntary decision, contradicting recent reports from the Catalan Volunteer Firefighters Association.

The local crew stated that the Directorate General is not forcing them out. Instead, the volunteers themselves have decided to stop due to the unsustainable workload and a lack of available staff in the Cerdanya region.

"The Directorate General is not kicking us out of the station; we are the ones who have said enough and want to leave."

Currently, the station has 14 members, but only 7 are regularly available. As a first-response station, they are required to provide 24/7 coverage, a task they describe as impossible with only seven active personnel.
The statement also confirmed that the crew rejected an offer to become a mixed station (combining professional and volunteer staff). This decision was finalized during an extraordinary assembly, where members voted to maintain their independence and history.
