The railway company Renfe has decided to implement a permanent road service for the R3 line, which connects L'Hospitalet de Llobregat with Puigcerdà and La Tor de Querol. This measure responds to the crisis the line is facing, which is currently undergoing doubling works scheduled until 2028.
Since July 30th, the R3 has suffered numerous disruptions due to copper thefts, incidents at stations and signaling systems, lack of power in the catenary, and trees falling on the tracks. These issues have necessitated the establishment of provisional services.
The new road service aims to provide an immediate and constant solution for passengers. The transport distribution is as follows: L'Hospitalet to Fabra i Puig via line R4; Fabra i Puig to La Garriga or Vic by bus; La Garriga to Puigcerdà or La Tor de Querol by train; and a complementary road service between La Garriga and Puigcerdà.
Currently, Renfe has not specified the expected duration for this full road service, which aims to alleviate the line's chronic problems.
