The service renewal represents an 18.4% increase in the vehicle fleet, rising from 38 to 45 units. This improvement aims to adapt healthcare to the geographical characteristics of the territory, marked by dispersion and complex terrain, as well as high tourist seasonality.
The new contract, managed by the company Transport Sanitari de Catalunya, increases service hours to 133,648 annually. Key improvements include extended coverage in areas such as Sort and Bellver de Cerdanya, and the establishment of new strategic waiting points in Martinet and Montellà.
The new units incorporate advanced technology to perform diagnostic tests, such as ultrasounds and blood tests, directly at the scene of the emergency. Additionally, multi-purpose ambulances for patients with special needs and 100% electric units for short transfers between hospitals have been introduced.
To improve safety and visibility, all vehicles have adopted the Battenberg pattern in fluorescent green. This visual update aligns SEM vehicles with European standards and other emergency services of the Generalitat de Catalunya.
