The Mentalitat Nova Foundation and various entities from Cerdanya have presented the future University of Cerdanya (UdC), a cross-border project designed to strengthen territorial cohesion and expand educational opportunities for the region.

This initiative benefits from European funding, classified as a “small project” within the POCTEFA calls. The main objective is to strengthen cooperation between administrations and entities, as well as to improve employability and the territory's capacity to adapt to current social, European, and climatic challenges.
The total cost of the project amounts to €147,342, of which €95,772 comes from European aid. The project is expected to conclude in October 2027, laying solid foundations for the definitive creation of the UdC.
The initial design includes a study to identify the most demanded training programs in the region. Subsequently, the university will be structured around three main axes: the School of Coexistence, focused on personal and social skills; the Connected Campus of Cerdanya, inspired by the Font-Romeu model; and the Popular University, which will offer professional training for individuals aged 16 and over. A third phase will focus on establishing alliances and strategies to consolidate the future of the center.
The project aims to be a connection point between the two sides of Cerdanya through education, transforming the region into a pilot area for cross-border educational and civic cooperation.
The Puigcerdà City Council has expressed its unconditional support for the proposal. A councilor for Education from the City Council attended the presentation event, emphasizing the commitment to quality, diverse education rooted in the territory, which generates new opportunities for all citizens.
The presentation brought together various social and educational entities from the region, representatives from the health sector, institutions from Upper Cerdanya, members of the Comarcal Council, city councils, and representatives from the University of Girona Foundation, among other relevant personalities from the area.
