The ceremony served to recall the firm will of the people of Puigcerdà to remain loyal to the ideals of freedom arriving from Europe, despite the Carlist troops outnumbering the defenders, with 1,200 men determined to conquer the city.
The character of a people is forged, over time, through adversity. And Puigcerdà emerged victorious from that siege.
Every April 10, the capital of Cerdanya pays tribute to those who lost their lives in defense of liberty. This year's event was attended by the mayor of Puigcerdà, Joan Manel Serra, the president of the Institut d'Estudis Ceretans, Josep Maria Prat, as well as councillors and representatives from the Town Council, the Comarcal Council, and Amics de Cerdanya.
Notably, this edition also saw the participation of 4th year ESO students from the Vedruna de Puigcerdà school and Maria Lluch, great-granddaughter of Esteve Ginesta, one of the brave soldiers who actively participated in the resistance against the Carlist troops.
