The Tarragona Water Consortium (CAT) has announced that the water quality from the Ebro transfer has been "exceptionally optimal" during 2024 and 2025, leading to a significant reduction in the use of water treatment products.

The LQAIGUA report from CAT indicates that water quality indicators have been the most favorable in the last two decades. This improvement has resulted in a 17% decrease in the use of reactive products for water purification over the past year.

"When the weather is on our side, everything goes much better, and this way we have been able to supply water of much higher quality."

The reduction in the use of these products is also attributed to the optimization of treatment processes at the Drinking Water Treatment Plant (ETAP) in l'Ampolla (Baix Ebre). There has been a notable decrease in the use of ferric chloride and carbon dioxide, key elements in coagulation and pH regulation.
This information was presented during the CAT general assembly, where the incorporation of Alió (Alt Camp) as a consortium municipality with reserve allocation, and the company Tarragona Poliolefinas Ibérica as a consortium industry, receiving the concession from Basell, were also approved. With these additions, CAT now has 28 industries and 71 consortium municipalities.
Concurrently, the Consell Comarcal de la Conca de Barberà has approved the new tender for the CAT connection works between Sarral and Forès. These works, with a budget of 3,115,405.32 euros and an execution period of eight months, are crucial for ensuring the supply of drinking water to eight municipalities in the region. The tender is being re-issued after the previous contract was rescinded due to non-compliance with deadlines.
The project includes the construction of main pipelines, pumping stations, and control systems, and is considered a priority infrastructure for the territory. The first municipalities to benefit will be Sarral and Forès, with the network gradually extending to other localities such as Conesa, Llorac, Passanant i Belltall, les Piles, Santa Coloma de Queralt, and Savallà del Comtat.
