Montblanc has launched the Tarragona Refugia route, a historical memory initiative that will tour 14 municipalities in the Tarragona region until June 19th.

The initiative highlights the welcome that many towns offered to children and refugee populations during the Civil War, establishing a bridge to current conflicts and humanitarian emergencies, such as the situation in Palestine, advocating for solidarity as an ongoing commitment.
At the inaugural event, Montblanc received a commemorative plaque as a «Solidarity Town», recognizing its humanitarian response in difficult times. By 1938, the municipality had hosted nearly 500 refugees.
The welcome ceremony included participation from students of the Institut Martí l'Humà, who presented a project related to the theme. Participants also visited the Arxiu Comarcal de la Conca de Barberà to consult historical documentation.
With this first stop, Tarragona Refugia begins a journey that combines history, education, and social commitment, aiming to keep the memory of solidarity alive and project it towards present-day humanitarian challenges.
