The prestigious magazine Historia National Geographic has launched a special edition entirely dedicated to the Poblet Monastery, an exhaustive journey through its history and heritage, with 10,000 copies in Catalan and 5,000 in Spanish.

This publication, featuring 200 pages and new photographic perspectives, offers a comprehensive look at the Cistercian monastery located in the Conca de Barberà. The content covers nearly 900 years of history, from its foundation to the present day, emphasizing elements such as the royal pantheon and the main altarpiece.
The edition also explores curiosities such as the relationship between Eduard Toda from Reus and Poblet, or the series of conferences recorded by Ràdio Associació de Catalunya in 1935, which were key to promoting the monastery's restoration. This special issue is the third that National Geographic has published in Catalan, following those dedicated to Montserrat (December 2024) and Gaudí (December 2025).

"It is a complete guide around Poblet, the monastery, and all its facets. It is an edition made from Camp de Tarragona for the whole world."

Damià Amorós · Art historian and text editor
The publication coincides with the recent circulation of up to 1.5 million commemorative 2-euro coins from the Bank of Spain dedicated to the monastery, and with the premiere of a new podcast from Ràdio 4 on the same topic. Damià Amorós, art historian and responsible for much of the text, emphasizes that Poblet has always been a focal point, recalling figures like Albert Einstein, whose visit to the monastery on February 25, 1923 is documented in a photograph included in this edition.
The issue, titled Poblet, the jewel of the Cister in Catalonia, is structured into five thematic blocks: 'The birth of a monastery' (12th-13th centuries), 'A fabulous Gothic complex' (13th-15th centuries), 'Between crisis and revolt' (16th-17th centuries), 'Decline and abandonment' (18th century-1835), and 'The resurrection of Poblet' (from 1835 to the present), concluding with a practical guide.
