The L'Espluga de Francolí Town Council banned tap water consumption starting Thursday morning due to turbidity caused by heavy rains affecting the local underground aquifer.

The decision was made after verifying that the network water did not meet the sanitary parameters for drinking use. The municipality's supply source is an underground aquifer that has been altered by the entry of sediments following the recent rainfall.

The situation could last for 48 hours, and the population will be notified when the parameters are within the sanitary range.

The municipal government team reported that the turbidity is expected to be a temporary problem. For this reason, they decided not to connect to the Consorci d'Aigües de Tarragona (CAT) network, as the municipal reservoirs are currently at maximum capacity.
