The initiative, driven by the Environmental Education Service, aims to encourage the reuse of objects to minimize waste generation and establish more sustainable practices among the public. Currently, details are being finalized for the inclusion of five additional municipalities in the program.
The campaign's practical workshops demonstrate how to give everyday items a second life before they become waste. Participants learn to transform, for example, glass jars into candle holders or hanging decorative items, using materials like cork stoppers and fabric scraps.
In addition to reuse, the campaign also addresses waste reduction through the distribution of reusable items, such as lunch bags, bottles, and cloth bags. These activities are targeted at both the general public and educational institutions, complemented by information points and talks in various municipalities.
To date, four school workshops and seven information sessions have been conducted, further expanding the initiative's impact and addressing waste prevention from multiple angles.
The 'Reutilitza' program will continue through October, November, and December. Municipalities scheduled to host activities include La Granada, Pontons, Sant Sadurní d’Anoia, Vilafranca del Penedès, Cubelles, Sant Pere de Ribes, and Les Cabanyes.
Through this campaign, the Mancomunitat Penedès-Garraf reinforces its commitment to environmental awareness, offering practical alternatives to extend the lifespan of objects and move towards more responsible consumption.
