Civil Protection announced shortly before 8 PM the lifting of the Transcat plan alert, activated following the accident that closed the road since 1:45 PM. The incident occurred at kilometer 26.2 of the highway, in the Barcelona direction, but the vehicle's cargo fell onto the lanes heading towards Tarragona, causing the corrosive liquid spill.
Despite the alert being deactivated, Generalitat emergency services continue to work to fully restore traffic. The spill of chemicals and fuels from the overturned truck spread across the central lanes of the highway and also affected a secondary road underneath. However, the Catalan Water Agency has confirmed that the nearby stream bed has not been contaminated.
To minimize environmental impact, containment measures have been implemented, and technical teams have been instructed to limit water usage during road cleaning to prevent contaminant flow. The Servei Català de Trànsit maintained the road closure in both directions, diverting traffic via the north and south exits of interchange 26, which connects to the western area of Sitges. The BV-2113, which had been reopened in the mid-afternoon, served as an alternative route.
The highway management company AUTCAT has begun cleanup operations with a specialized company to "restore normalcy to the affected area." The Generalitat maintains the pre-alert of the Transcat plan to oversee the removal of the damaged truck and ensure safety.
