The Com Nou reuse center achieved very positive results during 2025, establishing itself as an essential service for promoting reuse, waste prevention, and the circular economy in the Alt Penedès and Garraf regions. This initiative, managed by the Mancomunitat Penedès-Garraf, operates through fixed and mobile recycling centers, facilitating a second life for numerous items.
Throughout last year, the Com Nou workshop registered a total of 11,745 products, of which 8,152 were reused through the exchange space open to the public. These figures highlight the high utilization of collected materials and the positive public response to the project. The space received 8,196 visits during 2025, with a notable increase in the last quarter, which recorded the highest levels of both visits and products delivered.
One of the most relevant indicators of the project's environmental impact is the weight of the recovered materials. During the second half of 2025, products that found a new use totaled a net weight of 13,045.48 kilograms. This action prevented these wastes from being landfilled, directly contributing to the reduction of environmental impact. Household items were the most requested, followed by furniture, appliances, toys, and IT, image, and sound products.
In terms of weight, furniture accounted for the largest share of reused kilograms, with over 5,500 kg, followed by appliances, decorative materials, and household products, underscoring the importance of reusing bulky items. In addition to its primary activity, Com Nou organized awareness and training workshops, such as the Easter workshop and the furniture restoration workshop, which saw 18 participants and fostered a culture of repair and extending product lifespans.
The 2025 data reaffirms Com Nou's role as a benchmark in reuse, both for the volume of material recovered and for citizen involvement. The service continues to evolve towards a more responsible and sustainable consumption model, with plans to implement a new product lending system and collaborate with local and supra-municipal social services to support the most vulnerable individuals.
