The Sitges International Fantastic Film Festival of Catalonia, held in Sitges, has begun to reveal details for its upcoming edition, scheduled from October 8th to 18th. This major Catalan film event, focusing on horror, science fiction, and fantasy genres, promises a lineup of highly anticipated titles.
Among the featured films are Leviticus, a movie about contagion and religious horror, and Her Private Hell, the latest work from Nicholas Winding Refn. Also to be screened are Sanguine, representing the new French extremism subgenre; the Finnish film Nightborn, exploring motherhood-related horror; and The Birthday Party, by Léa Mysius. Additionally, Karma, set in the Catalan Pyrenees, will feature Marion Cotillard.
The program also includes Victorian Psycho, based on the novel by Virginia Feito; Forbidden fruits, a contemporary reinterpretation of witchcraft archetypes; Ghost in the Cell, by filmmaker Joko Anwar; the Korean film The Eyes, a remake of Los ojos de Julia; and Kokurojo: the samurai and the prisoner, by Kiyoshi Kurosawa.
In the classics section, the festival will screen Scanners by David Cronenberg and the complete restored version of Ken Russell's The Devils. Alejandro Amenábar will present the 4K restoration of Tesis, and restored versions of Holocausto caníbal and John Guillermin's King Kong will also be shown.
This year's poster, designed by the agency CHINA, commemorates the 50th anniversary of the premiere of Carrie, by Brian de Palma, based on a novel by Stephen King. The festival will focus thematically on the student horror subgenre. The poster image depicts a woman covered in red ribbons, a reference to an iconic scene from the film.
