The recovery of the historical memory of Barri de Mar is one of the main tasks of Espai Far since its opening. This work extends to acting as a specialized archive for maritime heritage, collaborating with the Arxiu Comarcal del Garraf to collect and research audiovisual material from various sources, including the collection of Francesc Roig Toqués.
Now, in partnership with Casa del Mar, the 'Retrats de vida' project has been launched. These open encounters for the public aim to decipher the mysteries of old photographs and films through the memories of the neighborhood's residents.
Images such as one of Alexandre de Cabanyes strolling on fishing boats raise questions about the people accompanying him. The central hypothesis of 'Retrats de vida' is to discover the identity of the anonymous individuals appearing in the photographic and audiovisual collection of Baix a Mar from the Arxiu Comarcal del Garraf.
The first session, recently held in the renovated event hall of Casa del Mar, was a success with nearly forty attendees who shared their memories and recollections.
This initial session focused on portrait photographs, but at least three additional sessions are already planned. These future encounters will address themes such as women, the transformation of the neighborhood, daily life, and scenes on fishing boats.
