The regions of Alt Penedès and Garraf have closed the month of September with improvements in unemployment figures and a significant boost in hiring, according to the latest report published by the Service of Economic Initiatives (SIE). After a rebound in August, unemployment is decreasing again, while the formalization of contracts, especially permanent ones, is regaining dynamism.
In Alt Penedès, unemployment has seen a month-on-month reduction of 0.73%, with 4,600 unemployed individuals. Despite this improvement, the year-on-year comparison shows an increase of 5.29%. The unemployment rate stands at 8.00%, with a greater impact on women (10.10%) than men (6.21%). Male unemployment has increased by 1.95%, while female unemployment has decreased by 2.60%. A notable increase in youth unemployment (+12.68%) is observed. Hiring has grown by 5.03% compared to August, with 3,943 contracts formalized, of which 42% are permanent.
In Garraf, the number of unemployed people decreased by 0.74% in September, standing at 7,114. The unemployment rate is 8.99%, with a slight year-on-year increase of 1.27%. Women represent 58% of the unemployed. The monthly decrease in unemployment is explained by the improvement among women (-2.10%), while male unemployment has increased by 1.23%. Unemployment for those under 25 has grown by 12.76%. Hiring has experienced a strong growth of 34.82% compared to August, with 2,536 contracts, of which 59.5% are permanent.
In both regions, permanent hiring has shown notable growth in both monthly and year-on-year terms, reinforcing the trend towards greater job stability. In Alt Penedès, permanent contracts increased by 31.85% monthly, while in Garraf the increase was 56.21%. Temporary hiring, on the other hand, has decreased in both regions.
