The Mayor of Sant Cugat, Josep Maria Vallès, requested the Minister of Territory, Sílvia Paneque, that the Vallvidrera Tunnels tolls be free of charge starting January 25, 2026, while severe disruptions to the Rodalies commuter rail service continue.

The formal request by the Mayor of Sant Cugat was made public via social media, where he directly addressed Minister Paneque. Vallès argues that toll exemption is a necessary measure to mitigate the "chaos" caused by continuous incidents and delays affecting the Rodalies network, forcing many users to rely on private transport to commute between Vallès and Barcelona.

"I have just asked Minister Paneque that while the chaos in Rodalies lasts, the Vallvidrera Tunnels should be free. In the same way that the Generalitat is studying lifting the barriers at the Garraf Tunnels, they should do the same with the toll that connects Vallès with Barcelona."

Vallès highlighted the decision by the Generalitat Government to lift barriers at the Garraf Tunnels as a precedent. This measure is being studied or has been implemented for similar reasons of congestion or to facilitate mobility during emergencies. The goal is to provide a quick and cost-free alternative for citizens who usually depend on the train service.
