The figure of Norman Cinnamond Planàs Rusiñol, direct great-grandson of the artist Santiago Rusiñol, was recently remembered and honored by the College of Architects of Catalonia (COAC). Cinnamond, who passed away in July 2020, was for decades the visible face of the family in all Rusiñol-related events, especially in Sitges.
His bond with his great-grandfather came from his grandmother Maria, the artist's daughter, who transmitted her passion for painting, literature, and life. This connection meant that Cinnamond was present in Sitges between 1981 (50th anniversary of Rusiñol's death) and 2018 (exhibition marking 125 years of Cau Ferrat), as well as in events in Madrid, Paris, Bologna, or the TNC.
Norman Cinnamond was more than a star architect. He was defined by his personal qualities such as kindness, good manners, professionalism, and generosity.
The tribute, promoted by the dean of the COAC, Guillem Costa Calsamiglia, brought together a choral portrait of his multifaceted personality. Architects such as Antoni Sala, Jaume Bach, Miquel Espinet, and Toni Berini participated in the roundtable led by Marta Cervelló.
This portrait was also captured in the publication edited by the COAC and La Capell, titled Norman Cinnamond. Arquitectura, disseny, art i memòria. The work recalls his role as a professor at the Superior School of Architecture, a board member of the FAD, and his commitment to the arts.
