The Mossos d'Esquadra have launched an investigation following a violent robbery that took place yesterday morning in Arbeca, in the Garrigues region. The victim, a 76-year-old man, was assaulted by two hooded individuals at a farmhouse on the outskirts of the town, on Girona street.
According to initial reports, the assailants beat the man, tied his hands, and covered his mouth, then stole his house keys and mobile phone. Subsequently, they went to the victim's home, located in Lluís Companys square, where the alarm was triggered.
The man's relatives, unable to contact him, alerted 112. Simultaneously, neighbors found the victim calling for help. After being attended to on site, he was transferred to the CAP de les Borges Blanques to receive medical assistance for his injuries. As of yesterday afternoon, no arrests had been made.
The Investigation Unit of the ABP Pla-Garrigues of the Mossos d'Esquadra has taken charge of the case, suspecting that it was a planned robbery, possibly carried out by individuals with a history of similar offenses.
This incident adds to a series of property crimes that have affected Arbeca in recent months. In January, a court in Lleida ordered provisional imprisonment for a 27-year-old man accused of a wave of robberies in properties, some of them in the parish, although none were violent. In February, the Investigation Unit of the Mossos de Mollerussa arrested four individuals from Vallès Oriental, accused of being part of a criminal group dedicated to selling stolen items online, with five robberies attributed to them in the demarcation, four of them in Arbeca.
